In this article, we will be looking at my Hair & Skin Essentials Products Review, showcasing two of their best-selling products – Hair & Skin Essentials Hair Quencher Mask and its 90% Anti Humidity Solution. One thing I love about these products is their ingredients – this is what makes or breaks a product and how it performs for the purpose for which it was created.

The Beginning

What I find very interesting with any product is the story behind their creation, and this is a rather interesting story when it comes to talking about Hair & Skin Essentials Hair Quencher Mask and its 90% Anti Humidity Solution products.

These products, under the ‘hat’ of the HotHeads ‘umbrella’, were created by Patti Coyne and Michael Victor Vecchiola. They have been around for many years and are both beauticians by trade.

Not only do they both have a love relationship with and for hair, they have always stepped outside the box in not only being instrumental with creating a wonderful set of brushes – the HotHeads Set of Hair Brushes but also creating products that perform and really help people with their hair care.

Being in constant rapport with their clientele, they noticed that one common issue that seemed to be ever constant for most customers ( at least 90%), was the concern of moisture and frizz – not enough of one and too much of the other.

They decided to literally take things into their own hands, and those of their chemist. They were lucky to have the expertise of a chemist who had previously worked with well-known brand – Chanel – and so the creation process began.

Their mission was to create a product to deal with moisture retention, reduction of frizz, and leaning more on the side of natural ingredients (as much as possible) as the product base. They were not only interested in marketing products but more in the product ingredients and how they performed.

They wanted the best.

And in the end, they achieved their goal – their 90% Anti Humidity Solution and Hair Quencher Mask were always in the top 5 performing products – constantly.

So, without further ado, let’s have a closer look at these products. I was asked to test and provide feedback on these products and I must say, I was more than impressed with both products.

Hair & Skin Essentials Hair Quencher Mask

Our first of the Hair & Skin Essentials products – the Hair Quencher Mask. Basically, it is a mask and is designed to nourish and strengthen your strands. You simply apply it to freshly washed tresses and allow it to remain for about 5 – 10 minutes. Then rinse, style as usual.

The main features:

  • Helps to detangle your tresses
  • Removes heavy residue buildup because of its acidity
  • Adds volume
  • Preserves hair color and can be used on processed hair
  • Moisturizes, repairs, and strengthens the hair
  • Is not heavy and helps to lock in moisture for dry and damaged hair
  • Cationic in nature and balances the hair’s surface porosity from root to tips and prepares it to enhance the follow-up styling products of choice
  • Fragrance-free
  • Color free
  • Can be used on any hair texture
  • Can be used to co-wash or to deep-condition your hair
  • Hair Quencher is Gluten Free and has a Vegan based formula

Taking a closer look at the ingredients, we can see the goodness that is combined to produce positive and effective results.

Aqua – water mixes ingredients together.

Cetyl Esters – are found naturally in our skin, as an ingredient they are man-made and used as emollients to give a product a less oily feel, and conditioning agents.

Cetearyl Alcohol – this a fatty acid which helps reduce dryness and porosity and is an emollient (not a true alcohol) an emulsifier, a thickener and carrying agent for other ingredients.

Isopropyl Myristate – man-made, it is an emollient and thickening agent that also reduces oiliness or greasiness in a product.

Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate – man-made, and functions as a conditioning agent, lubricates the surface of the hair and helps remove the appearance of dry patches and flakes on the scalp.

Hair & Skin Essentials 90% Anti Humidity Solution

Well, who does not want to have frizz-free hair? Everyone I am sure. This anti-humidity solution product was created with this in mind. It is aptly named the 90% Solution to show the actual percentage it has to address both humidity and anti-dehydration as a product.

Created to combat the extreme weather in Toronto, Canada, it is very effective in getting the job done. It can be used on hair that is blow-dried or simply full of curls. It can be applied to blow-dried hair when the hair is about 75% dry or just on wet hair if planning to embrace your curly texture.

The main features:

  • Light and non-greasy, does not weigh your hair down
  • Tames and reduces frizz
  • Is water-soluble
  • No residual buildup
  • Prevents color fading/color-safe
  • Can be used to all hair textures
  • Has a built-in UV protection
  • Works synergistically with most styling products

List of ingredients:

Water/agua/eau, polyquatermium-70,Dipropylene Glycol,Hydroxyethyicellulose,Urtica Diolca (nettle)Exstract,ArnicaMontana Flower Exstract,Nasturtium Officinale Flower Leaf Extract,Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) eaf Exstract,Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Exstract, Wheat Amino Acids,Octyl Salicytate (Organic sunscreen), Panthenol, PEG-60Almound Glycerides, PEG-33and PEG-8 Dimethicone and PEG-14, Phenoxyethanol,Triethanolamine.

Now taking a closer look at the ingredients, we can see how the botanic extracts and derivatives all combine to produce a great product. Of course, a good sign for any product is when water is among the first 5 on an ingredients list – which it is in this case.

Aqua – water mixes ingredients together.

Polyquaternium-70 – cationic (positively charged) not a sticky substance that provides conditioning, softening, and is water-soluble.

Diproplyene Glycol – a man-made humectant carries water-based ingredients and helps the strands absorb moisture; makes it soft and easy to manage.

Hydroxyethicellulose – plant-derived thickening properties and is non-sticky

Octyl Salicytate – an organic sunscreen

Nettle – which provides shine and manageability

Arnica – which is anti-fungal and antimicrobial

Rosemary – known to relieve a dry itchy scalp

Sage – nourishes the follicle

Our Experience With The Products

So, that being said, let me tell you about my experience with these products, and that of my daughter. We absolutely loved them.

I co-washed my hair and then squeezed out the excess water with my hands. I then took the time to apply the product – Hair & Skin Essentials Hair Quencher Mask– to my tresses in sections. This way I ensured that it was evenly distributed throughout my hair.

Covered my hair with a plastic cap and did some chores. Ok, so, I came back 30-mins later – got caught up. I rinsed and then added the 90% Anti Humidity Solution (see my review below), then did two-strand twists after applying my Whipped Shea Butter before twisting. I allowed my tresses to air-dry.

The next day, I untwisted my twists. My hair was shiny and the curl definition was beautiful. My hair was also very soft to the touch and did not feel ‘weighed down’. I was happy and so was my hair.

I decided to also use the mask and 90% solution on my daughter’s hair. We have different hair textures and I wanted to see how the products performed on her hair as well. I did it in two ways – blow-dried straight and air-dried curly.

Of course, I co-washed her waist-length hair and then applied the mask in sections to ensure complete coverage. I covered her hair with a plastic cap. Of course, being only 11-yrs old, the attention span is limited so 10-minutes was all I could get her to keep it on her hair for – no worries – it still worked.

I then rinsed and wrapped her hair using my Studio Dry Pile-Dry Towel, which removed the excess water from her hair. I then applied the anti-humidity solution generously from root to tip, combing though as I went. The comb through was a breeze. I suspect it was the combination of the mask and the 90% solution.

My next step was to blow-dry her hair using my HotHeads Hair Brush. The whole process was a long haul for her, of course, with her hair length, it will take some time. However, in the end, she was thrilled and so was I. Her hair was beautiful – soft to the touch, shiny, and full of movement and volume.

Now the best test was to see how the environment handled the products. She was able to keep her hair ‘straight’ and frizz-free for 6 days before I decided to wash her hair again – even on day 6, it still looked fabulous. Taking in consideration that we are talking about an active 11-yr with lots of extracurricular activities and energy to boot!

My next test was to see how the products performed on her natural curls. I did the same process – co-wash, mask, but this time, I did not towel dry her hair. I squeezed the excess water and then applied the 90% solution. Then I sectioned her hair, did two-strand twists, and applied my homemade Whipped Shea Butter to each twist. She went to bed.

natural curls

The next morning, I untwisted the twists and separated then a bit. The curls were gorgeous. The next test was to see how the hair would look after a day at school. Fabulous. Her curls were still intact and no frizz. I took it one step further. It was overcast and misting today, and so we went for a walk with her beloved, Donut – her puppy.

Even with a slight misting and drizzle, her curls remained intact and did not frizz. I am UBER sold on this 90% anti-humidity solution – it WORKS.

My Final Thoughts On My Hair & Skin Essentials Products Review 2020

Well, the jury is in – both products, Hair & Skin Essentials Hair Quencher Mask and its 90% Anti Humidity Solution – are definitely worth their weight in gold. This has been my experience and that of my daughter. I have used the products a few times and each time it comes through with ‘shining colors’. I especially love the 90% solution. It is a genuine ‘frizz-buster’ in my books.

I hope this review will be a great source of information in your search for great products. If you get the opportunity to try these products, you won’t be disappointed. I would love to hear your feedback too. All the best.

I normally look at the contents of a product to determine its quality. Hair & Skin Essentials 90% Anti Humidity Solution is a great product, at least by studying the chemical contents.

      Hello Skailait,
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Yes, you are right…the first 5 ingredients usually dictate the ‘health’ of the product. I have used and love 90% Ant-Humidity Solution…it is a keeper for me.

Black hair products. You’re talking my language. I love my natural hair. However, I have a question. Maybe I overlooked it, but how does the product hold up for 4-C hair? The picture indicates a young woman with a straighter texture. How about those of us with a courser texture?

      Hello Lane,
Thanks for stopping by. This product should hold up for any type of hair texture. The picture is my daughter and she has a looser hair type texture than I do and it works wonderfully with my hair as well. I am just not a ‘kodak’ person and m daughter loves the camera. I am a 3A/B. My suggestion is to give the product a try and see the outcome. Ultimately, any protection against frizz is a winner. I can only vouch for this product based on my usage. Let me know how it works out for you.
      All the best.
