10 Best Oils For Massage Guide 2020
What Is A Massage Oil?
I am sure that every once in a while the thought or mere idea of a massage is one thought that anyone would love to have enter their reality! Yes, most massages are very relaxing and invigorating to say the least.
There are various types of massages and the more common types are:
- Swedish
- Thai
- Aromatherapy
- Hot Stones
- Deep Tissue
- Shiatsu
- Sports
- Trigger Point
- Chair
- Reflexology
In most of these massages, the masseuse or masseur uses an oil to accomplish the task. The whole purpose of the oil is to reduce the friction of the effect of the masseuse’s hand against the client’s skin. There are some massages where no oil is used or rather the simple coercion of the skin’s natural oil is the lubricant.
The Types Of Massage Oils
There a few different types of oils which can be used as a massage oil:
- Heavy oils like – castor, wheat germ, shea oil
- Light oils like – sweet almond, coconut oil, jojoba, sunflower, grapeseed oil
- Fragrant oils like – patchouli, cocoa oil
How To Use Massage Oils
As with most massages, their can be different desired end results and this in turn means different oils to get the job done.
The best way to use massage oils is to warm them first. You can warm them:
- in a hot water bath before application
- or by using the palms of the hands before application.
It is invariably a matter of technique and custom. And of course, personal preference on the part of the person being massaged.
Ultimately, it is what pleases the person the most. In any event, here in this 10 Best Oils For Massage Guide 2020, we will take a look at the massage oil options and you get to decide which one will help to do the job you desire. AND, in addition to massage, here is an article about self-care and 30 Beauty & Wellness Gifts For Her. I am sure that you should find something to make you go, ‘Aaah’!

My Final Thoughts About 10 Best Oils For Massage Guide 2020
Everyone loves getting a massage, I will be the first one to admit that I would be at the head of the line. What I find really great is knowing that you are able to find massage oils using 100% natural oils in their formula.
Yes, there can be massage oils with synthetic additives and they may get similar results, however, nothing beats Mother Nature and her way of doing things.

On a side note, I found a very intersting article – CBD Muscle Rub for Some Post-Yoga Self-Care – give it a read, maybe you could even be onto finding another ‘oil’ to pamper those aching muscles.
All the best.

How would you like to learn how to post on a blog like this one?
You can put your thoughts on paper but learning how to build your own blog is something different. If you have the right training it is not that difficult.
When you learn how to build your own blog you get to choose the things that you write about. You can also use the blog to make extra income. Here is where I learned how to build my own blog and connect with people who helped me along the way.
Coconut oil is probably the best massage oil from everything I have heard. I have a few friends that love to get massages and ask for that oil in particular. If I ever got a massage I would probably want coconut oil because you can add whatever fragrant essential oils you want to it and get their benefit too. I love that you have several coconut based oils on your list.
Hello Brittaney,
Thanks for stopping by.Yes, I simply love coconut oil – I use it inside and outside my body! It is such a healthy oil. I get and give a lot of massages and I also use coconut oil mixed with all different kinds of essential oils – and I love it, so do the receivers…lol.
Let me know how it all works out when you finally get one!
Hi Michelle.
Can I order the sensual massage please? 🙂 Haha – only kidding (or am I)
Great post and I love massages. Oils make a huge difference and I go back to the same lady for all my massages primarily because she does a great job but also because she has fantastic oils. I would definitely move if the oils were inferior!
I think the one she use on my is Maple Holistics Massage Therapy Oil – sounds like the exact thing. I will ask her on Monday when I go for my massage. Better still I will recommend your site to her.
Thanks for posting.
Lawrence
Hello there Lawrence,
Yes indeed, you can order one, when you make your next massage appointment. I, too love massages. The oils are wonderful and ultimately, the massaging of the muscles – the whole experience. I love the patchouli and lavender essential oils – soothing and so relaxing. Thanks for the recommendation and all the best.
Michelle
Yes, who doesn’t like a good relaxing massage? I am more familiar with foot reflexology as my better half would usually prefer this method to treat his shoulder ache. It is good to know there are many others to consider. I understand there are many benefits to coconut oil and I love the freshness of peppermint. Let’s see what it will be after taking a better look at them.
Thanks for your recommendation.
Sharon
Hello Sharon,
Thanks for visiting and taking the time to leave your thoughts. Yes indeed, who does not enjoy a massage of any kind? I too love reflexology, a great way to natural healing as well. Yes, coconut oil is my BFF and my ‘go-to’ ever so often. I would love to hear your feedback once you have tested the waters. All the best.
Michelle
Excellent post MIchelle. Very informative with lots of options. I recently had a deep muscle massage for the first time and left there feeling great. The massage therapist did not use oils but I wonder how much better I would have felt and how long it would have lasted if she had. I wonder. I recently read an article about the use of CBD oil for message therapy. I think I Googled ‘CBD and M’. It was very intersting how they used the healing properties of CBD and the ancient practice of massage therapy. Have you seen anything regarding this?
Thank you again for sharing.
Looking forward to your reply.
Kind regards always and forever.
-DCarl
Hello Carl,
Thanks for stopping by. Thanks for the inspiration. Subsequent to your comment, I have written an article about CBD Oil and massage. Yes, a massage is a great therapy and oh so relaxing as well.
All the best.
Michelle
Michelle,
I like that you have listed the ingredients for each product. I would use the ones with natural ingredients first, the coconut oil would be at the top of my list, second would be the one with Lavender, would help with relaxing after the message.
Great info as always.
John
Hello JOhn,
Thanks for your visit and sharing your thoughts. Yes, I agree with you. I love and try to use as much natural ingredients in everything I do. You have definitely my two favorites in mind as well.
Michelle
I love getting a massage. It is so relaxing. And after a session, I feel so refreshed.
And you are right! Massage oils with natural oils is much better!
I especially like Number 8! Honeydew Massage Therapy Aromatherapy Oil. The combination of Apricot, Lavender, Sweet Orang and Ylang Ylang sounds heavenly! I can just imagine the sweet fragrance that I will enjoy as I get a massage. Thank you for this great list!
Hello there Timotheus,
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, who doesn’t love a massage…even animals. I give my four-legged friend an occasional massage and he loves it, but I do not use any oils though…I think that might be a tad messy. LOL. Yes, I agree with you too, natural oils for massages may be a better option than synthetic oils.
All the best.
Michelle
A massage would be in order right about now! Too bad I don’t have one scheduled. I’ll have to talk to my hsband about that when he gets back in town. LOL
I like that you included the benefits of the different kinds of oils. This certainly gives me some food for thought. I’m the kind of person who would take the fractionated coconut oil and then add essential oils, like peppermint and lavender to make an oil that could be used when I get a migraine, or perhaps make one that was more sensual in it’s scent for date night.
I did enjoy your article and will definitely give massage oil more thought.
Awesome, Anita. You had me smiling as I read your comment. Your very own personal masseur – what a life. Yes, there are many benefits to using oils and I so love using coconut oil as a base and on its own. All the best.
Michelle
Great post and good info.
This can help us since we are lovers of this, my wife and me.
Personally, I love the hot stones, it is very good for my muscles.
And obviously, you can’t have a massage without oil!
The oils you recommend I’ve never used before honestly, so what I will do is order them and see how it goes!
Thanks for sharing!
Hello Emmanuel,
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, what good is a massage without oil – and a great variety to boot! Glad you enjoyed the article and have fun when you get around to it.
Michelle
Thanks for creating this awesome list!
Since I followed a massage course a few years ago I’m offering massages to some of my friends. Therefore I’m always looking for new flavours to try out. I’m definately gonna bookmark this article and start ordering a few of these.
I do find it a bit hilarious that you can use coconut oil as toothpaste… 🙂
Hello Laura,
Glad you enjoyed the information. And, yes, coconut is so very versatile…it is my favorite oil next to all the others – it really is hard to choose a favorite…but I ALWAYS use coconut oil for just about everything…cooking, hair care, and health.
All the best.
Michelle
